My journals of 2024

Today, it's time for an annual review again!

My notes said it was supposed to be about drawings, but I’ve changed the plan. I drew so little this year, and when I did, it was in my journal. I could showcase the drawings that aren’t in my journal separately, but I don’t think it’s worth it for an annual review. So today, it’s an annual review of my journals!

I’ve tried to only pick pages that I haven’t uploaded here before to avoid repetition.

Overall, I had three journals and one that I started but didn’t continue so the first two months aren't even considered in my selection here.

Journal One

The first journal I’m including is from Leuchtturm, a well-known brand that almost no one on YouTube can pronounce correctly. The notebook itself is very nice but too expensive and fills up too quickly.

At that time, I was still writing about personal things, so I censored the text in the photos.

Journal Two

I’ve already written about this journal in this blog post.

I didn’t get along with it very well because it was blank, and I was glad when it was full. Today, I’ll only show my drawings — there were a few more of those in this journal. At that time, I was already in retraining and had stopped writing about personal matters, instead using my journals to document my knowledge.

Journal Three

Here are some spreads from October. This one is all about IT stuff. The journal is from a craft store, with a grid, and kind of nothing special. It has a black hardcover, and the edges of the pages are colorful stripes that you can only see when it’s closed. Honestly, I wasn’t thrilled with it, but it served its purpose.

December

Here’s one of my logs, which is harder to draw when the notebook has no grid whatsoever. I decided to label things in Japanese so my seatmates couldn’t read them. I like them, but they don’t need to know everything.

Toward the end, my pages got messier. On one hand, I wanted to finish this journal, and on the other hand, I was documenting progress on my little programming project, prioritizing function over aesthetics.

Looking Ahead to 2025

The old journal is almost full, and that’s a good thing. I’m tired of it and want to start fresh in January, of course! My next one is ready, and I’ve come up with a new system designed for the long term. However, there’s one key factor I’ve discovered and need to account for in my new routine: if a journal has "too many" pages, I lose interest in it and want to start the next one.

I’ll write next year about my updates to journaling!
